Homework
Our homework has several purposes...
*extend the work introduced in class
*encourage good study habits
*provide extended learning opportunities
*reinforce school learning
*increase a student’s knowledge
*incorporate resources of home & family
*improve home-school connection
*challenge every student

Students are not expected to complete their homework alone, parental help & participation may be needed. Homework sheets will go home at the beginning of the week & are due at the end of the week. Each week, homework options & learning focuses are listed. Homework includes a variety of math & literacy practice options to help us continue to build confidence, fluency, & academic skills. Each item completed will earn your child a star*. The more items completed, the more stars* earned. At the end of the week, help your child total their stars* earned & sign for confirmation. We will total our stars* together & the class will earn a reward for their hard work. This TEAM approach will help us learn to do our part to help the class earn a reward. In our TEAM…Together Everyone Achieves More.

Grading Scale

Receiving letter grades (E, S, & U) on assignments & report cards will be a new experience for your child this year.  In our grading system four factors are considered: (1) ability to work independently, (2) individual improvement, (3) quality of work, & (4) consistency of performance. Grades are given for many different things: worksheets, participation in class discussions, guided reading groups, tests, cooperative games, books made in class, etc.  The grade your child receives on his/her report card will reflect all of these activities.

E : 90 - 100%          S+ :  80 - 89%          S : 70 - 79%

S- : 60 - 69%          U : 0 - 59%

**Please note that not all assignments will receive a letter grade. Many papers are simply practice work completed with the group & will be checked for completion and given a star, smiley face, sticker, etc.

Peanut & Treenut   Free
We have several students in our school with severe allergies to peanuts and/or tree nuts. Because of the seriousness of this allergy, please ensure that you double & triple check to ensure no peanut or tree nut products are sent for snacks or class parties. Your child is able to eat what they like in the lunch room, where a peanut free table will be available for allergic students or students who have not brought nut products with them that day. If students in our class have these allergies, we will keep our classroom “nut free” due to shared classroom supplies & the ease with which food residue transfers from one student to another. Thank you for your help ensuring that all students stay safe at school.
