Word Study
Curriculum
Word Study will include weekly Spelling practice patterns, sight word practice, letter patterns & combinations (short & long vowels, blends, digraphs, etc.), rhyming word families, parts of speech (nouns, verbs, & adjectives), & more.
Goals
*150+ sight words
*weekly sound patterns
*vowel sounds
*blends & digraphs
*simple parts of speech (nouns, verbs, & adjectives)
Spelling
Formal Spelling units will begin the first week. At the beginning of each week, students will take a pre-test. They will hear the words for the first time & try their best to spell them. These Spelling lists are designed to give students practice with a particular sound or word pattern. There are 2 separate lists. Students will receive the grade they earn on the Basic List. This is the required list for students. The Challenge List will be required for students who received a perfect score on a Spelling pre-test. Any student can choose to study & prepare for both the Basic & Challenge tests on Friday. I encourage you to try the Challenge Lists to continue to broaden your Spelling knowledge. Both lists include 12 Spelling Words, including weekly sight words.
